CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Some road work near West Oso High School will add to back-to-school anxiety.

The first day of school is just around the corner, but this year the trip to and from school requires some planning.

KRIS 6 News reporter Naidy Escobar rode with Olga Mendez, who works at the West Oso Administration Building. She was affected by the construction on Flato Road, but said it’s not that difficult to find your way once you know the routes.

“They’ve done a really good job of putting up little arrows so you can drive through,” MENDEZ said. “It takes a little longer, maybe 5 to 10 minutes longer, but with all the traffic because school is starting, you should take your time.”

WOISD administration wants parents to know what to expect on Tuesday morning.

“We’re going to see a lot of traffic jams. Parents probably won’t notice because there are a lot of diversions,” she said.

At some detours there are signs saying “Through traffic closed”, which means that cars can drive through.

If you want to go to the high school, there is only one entrance and one exit. Parents are only allowed to enter through the student parking lot, walk around, let the students out, and then exit back out onto Flato Road.

If parents have children attending middle school, there is an easy route via Agnes and Navigation Blvd.

Administrators simply ask parents to be patient. Although they have this path in place for now, they also ask parents to check their app regularly to stay up to date.

This project, undertaken by the City of Corpus Christi, consists of three phases. The first phase began in June and will be completed in six to seven months.

Once this phase is completed, the Project Contractor will provide an updated schedule for the project.
