Emergency alarm system

Campus Safety | New York Tech

The New York Institute of Technology uses an emergency alert system to keep community members on all campuses informed of campus closures, emergencies, or anything that requires your immediate attention via:

  • Text messages
  • Emails to your @nyit.edu account
  • Phone calls

TechSafe App

The most important tool for your safety at New York Tech is the TechSafe App for your phone. This allows you to:

  • Report in case of emergency
  • Keep someone company on the way home
  • Get security information
  • Report a tip

Campus Alone Program

Campus Alone is a program of the Campus Safety Office and is available to all members of the campus community who work or study outside of business hours on evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.

Individuals concerned about their personal safety while working/studying alone should call the Office of Campus Safety at 516.686.7789. When calling, please provide the following:

  • Your name, location and telephone number in the building if you work in an office.
  • An estimated departure time. (If this changes, you must inform us.)
  • Your means of travel and, if applicable, a description of the vehicle and the location where you parked your vehicle.
  • Whether you would like an escort on foot to your parked vehicle or another location. Before you leave, you must call Campus Security again to confirm that you are OK and that you are leaving. Campus Security may visit you at your location, especially if they have not received your confirmation of your departure.

Escort service on foot

The Office of Campus Safety also offers an escort service that provides walking escort to and from campus buildings and parking lots. This service is available to the entire college community.

If a crime occurs on campus, call 911 immediately. If you call from a campus phone, New York Tech Security will be automatically notified. Any delay in reporting an incident will reduce the chances of arresting the suspect. New York Tech Security maintains a close working relationship with local police departments and will assist you in any way possible if you become a victim of a crime.
