A teenager bet his friend $10 that he would marry his high school sweetheart

When Brodie and Savannah Richards met in high school, Brodie knew their crush was real. In 2016, he told a friend who was filming a video that he was going to marry Savannah, sealing the $10 bet with a handshake.

Savannah told People“His friend said, ‘You’re like 15 years old. You’re not getting married. That’s not happening.’ But it did. We really are best friends. We clicked from the first moment. It was such a strong friendship that it was so easy to love him. He’s a great guy. If you know Brodie, you love him.”

Savannah did not know for a long time that her husband had bet that they would get married

Savannah explained People that she had spoken to the friend who shot the video about posting something on social media. News of the footage shocked Savannah.

“I asked her to find it. I felt like I had to see it to believe it. Then she sent it to me. I always knew we were going to get married, so I’ve kept the video for about four years now, just hoping that one day I could experience that moment. I wanted to be able to use that video and say, ‘Yes, we really did it.’ Even when you’re very young, you know it when you know it.”

The couple found happiness for the rest of their lives. They have a 1-year-old daughter together and said “I do” in April 2024. Savannah told People The friend who shot the video couldn’t attend the wedding reception. But she had the last laugh.

“She sent me a card with $10,” she added. “So we got our $10 and framed it.”
