Three injured in accident near Arapahoe Avenue, Foothills Parkway

Three people were injured in a three-vehicle crash near Arapahoe Avenue and Foothills Parkway around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Boulder Police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh.

According to Waugh, the 20-year-old driver of an SUV ran a red light at the corner of 48th Street and Arapahoe Avenue and struck a sedan that was traveling southbound and had a green light.

The SUV continued southwest and struck an eastbound Lexus that had stopped at the light, Waugh said. The Lexus was pushed into a Tesla that was driving behind it. The driver of the sedan was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Waugh said.

The Lexus driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The Tesla driver was uninjured, Waugh said.

The SUV driver suffered minor injuries from the deployed airbag but was not taken to the hospital. He was later charged with negligent driving causing personal injury. Three cars were towed from the scene, Waugh said.

The accident led to the closure of Arapahoe Avenue at the Foothills Parkway in an eastbound direction, according to a Boulder police dispatch on X. The roads were reopened at around 4:19 p.m., the dispatch said.
