Lydia Ko: Olympic champion delighted about her return to the Women’s Scottish Open

Ko wanted to play in the Scottish Open to prepare for the links golf tournament before the Major next week.

“I just wanted to keep my schedule and I think that’s a good thing, especially when you’re playing something as big as the Open,” she said. “I always like playing links and we don’t get to play golf courses like that very often during the year.”

World number two Lilia Vu, the top-ranked player in the field, was pleased with the “really nice” weather during Wednesday’s Pro-Am, but is aware that this is unlikely to be the case for all four rounds.

“I think my goal for this week is to adapt to the weather, whatever it is,” she said. “I know there will be changeable weather.”

Defending champion Céline Boutier, who finished 18th at the Olympics, sees the changeable weather as simply “part of the experience on Scottish golf courses”.

“It’s very nice to come back here. There are many good memories here,” she said.

For Scottish number one Gemma Dryburgh, winning her home tournament is “a dream of mine” as she aims to repeat her compatriot Bob MacIntyre’s victory at this year’s Scottish Men’s Open in a world-class field.

“Seeing Bob win at Renaissance was so inspiring,” she added. “I sent him a message and just said how proud we are of him.”

“It’s just incredible to see what he’s done in the last year or so – or actually the last couple of years. It would be great to follow in his footsteps.”
