Tree time: Surrey’s online store offers trees to city dwellers

Dogwoods, magnolias, fruit trees and more available from August 21st

Interested citizens will have the opportunity to purchase trees online through the City of Surrey next week.

“Planting a tree is an investment in our community and our future,” Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke said in a press release.

“I’m delighted to continue to offer Surrey residents the opportunity to purchase high-quality trees at great prices and plant them on their private property. Trees are selling out quickly, so mark the date in your diary to make sure you don’t miss out. Every tree we plant today is a step towards a greener, more vibrant Surrey tomorrow.”

Each tree, available during the online sale from August 21 to September 4, costs $20 and can be purchased online at surrey.ca/treesale.

All purchased plants can be picked up at the Surrey Operations Centre, 6651 148 St., on September 15. The final tree sale will be held from September 25 to October 9, and plants can be picked up on October 20. Up to 1,000 trees will be available for interested buyers at each sale.

The City of Surrey event sells four trees annually on a first-come, first-served basis. Various species are available, including dogwoods, maples, fruit trees and more.

Only Surrey residents can make a purchase. Each tree for sale is between 1.5 and 3.6 metres tall and comes in 10 or 19 litre pots. The diameter is 2 to 3 centimetres.
