A Florida man intentionally drove his semi-trailer into a Tampa strip club as he was returning after being asked to leave, killing one person and injuring others, according to police.
The Tampa Police Department (TPD) responded to a 911 call regarding a truck in the parking lot of Emperors Gentlemen’s Club at approximately 4:19 a.m. Tuesday morning.
When officers arrived, they found that a truck had rammed into the front of the building that leads to the club’s entrance.
According to witnesses, the driver was thrown out of the club before he returned and drove his vehicle into a group of people standing in front of the entrance.
The 25-year-old driver had been waiting in his car outside the club for about 30 minutes, waiting for a man he had been arguing with inside to leave the building, Local10 reported.
According to a TPD press release, one man died in the accident and two others were injured but are expected to survive.
“This is an incredibly tragic and completely preventable incident,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.
“We will work to ensure justice is done for the victims and their families. We are thinking of all those affected, including the innocent bystanders who witnessed this terrible ordeal.”
The driver was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition. No charges have been filed against him.
