Sofia Vergara wants to reboot “Modern Family” and suggests TV movie

Sofía Vergara explains that Ed O’Neill must not die.

Recently nominated for an Emmy for her leading role in Netflix’s crime drama “Griselda”, the Colombian star revealed in her diversity The front page says she’s ready to reprise her role as hilarious poster girl Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC’s “Modern Family.” But there’s one condition: Ed O’Neill, who played her husband Jay on the sitcom, must still be alive to star with her.

“I would die to be on that set,” says Vergara. “It would be so much fun. A TV movie, maybe?”

Although she believes it’s too early to bring the Pritchett family back to the screen, Vergara regularly jokes with O’Neill about the possibility.

After seeing him in the FX miniseries “Clipped,” in which O’Neill played former LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, Vergara jokingly told him, “You look damn old.”

“I always joke with him (saying), ‘Ed, don’t die, because if we do the sequel, it’s going to take some time, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead,'” Vergara said diversity.

The Emmys are no stranger to Vergara. From 2010 to 2013, she received four consecutive nominations in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy category for her role as Gloria on Modern Family. But despite her frequent nominations, Vergara has yet to win a statuette – although many believe she deserved at least one Emmy during her time on the ABC sitcom.

“I tell Julie Bowen that too,” Vergara jokes about her “Modern Family” co-star, who won two Emmys for her role as Gloria’s stepdaughter Claire. “I was nominated four times. Julie was too, and I always rub it in her face: ‘One of these is mine, but I’m just letting you keep it in your house.'”

Bowen and Vergara’s relationship is quite different from their characters’ on-screen rivalry. Vergara said Bowen sent her a video of herself voting for the Colombian actress at this year’s Emmys. (With her nomination this year, Vergara is the first Colombian-born actress and the second Latina to be nominated in the miniseries category.)

Vergara noted that the cast of “Modern Family” remains close even after the series ends in 2020. Co-creator Steven Levitan tells diversity She was always the cast member everyone wanted to sit next to at dinner.

“Sofía has that rare combination of strength, humor and beauty,” he says. “Sofía is naturally smart. She knows how to make people feel good… She was never conceited. Despite all her hard-earned success, she was always the first to laugh at herself when she messed up, which signaled to everyone on set that it was OK to laugh with her.”

“Griselda” is now streaming on Netflix.
