There is hardly a more grotesque transformation in horror films than in David Cronenberg’s “The Fly”. In it, Jeff Goldblum plays Seth Brindle, a scientist who slowly transforms into a gruesome, insect-like creature after a failed experiment.

Brundle’s transformation is so iconic that it inspired Demi Moore’s transformation in the upcoming horror film The Substance. She plays actress Elisabeth Sparkle, who, after losing her job as a fitness show host, injects herself with a mysterious substance that causes a younger woman (Margaret Qualley) to be born from a grisly wound in her back.
