Leg Puppy recently relaunched themselves as Leg Puppy 2.0. Their operating system has been updated and they now operate at optimal efficiency with a shiny new interface and no AI to cloud their creativity.

Having previously targeted streaming services, online gambling and the selfie generation, the band have once again grabbed the zeitgeist by the collar and given it a good shake to bring it to its senses. This time, the target of their postmodern wrath is the ‘phone twat’. We’ve all been there: you’re minding your own business on public transport when someone answers the phone, blaring from a tinny speaker and starting a stupid conversation that you can’t escape without noise-cancelling technology. This is the unnatural evolution of the one-sided phone yell that began in the noughties and was parodied by Dom Joly as ‘The Big Phone Guy’.

The song is a quiet, brooding electronic skulk and Leg Puppy know how to layer their synths in such a way that they create an unsettling landscape for the listener; something that perfectly reflects their dystopian view of the world. The lyrics may not make the shortlist for literary awards, but I’m sure they will resonate with many people who will love lines like “Headphones, headphones, buy yourself a pair of headphones, nobody wants to hear your boring chat. Phone Twat” And “Loud volume, no consideration for the room. Your ignorance is written all over my face“. The lyric video pays homage to Peter Saville’s 1978 poster for The Haçienda with the apt message “USE HEARING PROTECTION”.

“Phone Twat” is from her EP Rise of the Telephone Idiot which recaps some previous tracks poking fun at Twitter and selfie sticks, and also includes some remixes, including this version of DP34’s “Selfie Stick.”
