The Macy’s location at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover is for sale.
SRS Real Estate Partners calls the 225,763-square-foot property a “big-box opportunity.”
Macy’s announced today in a statement that the company intends to close approximately 150 Macy’s stores over the next three years while continuing to invest in its 350-store “Go Forward Fleet.”
According to Macy’s, a final decision regarding locations has not yet been made.
“An evaluation is currently underway comparing the potential property value and future profitability potential for sales growth,” Macy’s said in the statement. “We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at this time. If we eventually proceed with closing this location, it will not occur until 2025 at the earliest.”
Macy’s at Riverchase Galleria was originally a Rich’s department store that opened in 1986, according to Alan Paquette, who manages The Offices at 3000 Riverchase, formerly known as the Riverchase Galleria office tower.
Paquette said Macy’s eventually bought Rich’s, and the original Macy’s location in the mall was where the Von Maur store is today.
A second Macy’s was located in Brookwood Village in Mountain Brook until its closing in 2022.
