BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police Community Service Officer Bobby Apel was named the department’s Community Service Employee of the Quarter.

Bobby is a dedicated employee who always puts the needs of others above his own. Apel is always the first to volunteer and help when needed without hesitation or complaining.

“Bobby is an exceptional employee who has truly exceeded his own expectations in his role. His ability to take on new responsibilities is a testament to his skills and commitment,” a Melbourne Police spokesman said.

“We are grateful to have Bobby as part of our team and his contributions are invaluable to our community.”

Under the supervision of the Community Services Supervisor, Melbourne Police Community Service Officers carry out a wide range of non-hazardous policing and law enforcement duties, including teleservices, staffing the department’s complaints line, processing prisoners in the temporary detention centre and responding to patrol calls.

This course is characterized by independent judgment when responding to non-emergency situations.

Melbourne Police Community Service Officers also respond to non-threatening calls for non-ongoing reports of minor crime. This may involve taking reports over the telephone or arriving at the scene.

Other duties include providing emergency medical assistance in non-criminal incidents until a sworn police officer arrives, directing traffic, and otherwise ensuring general public services.
