High-quality “car condos” to be built near Barber Motorsports Park

Further construction projects are planned near Barber Motorsports Park.

What looks like a rezoning of a property opens the door to a unique development.

Birmingham City Council has approved the rezoning of the industrial area next to the park into a recreational area.

The new project will consist of condominiums, but they won’t look like the apartments you’ve probably visited before. They will have interior spaces for vehicles.

The 105-unit complex will be located on Rex Lake Road.

The high-end garages will each be approximately 110 square meters in size, providing enough space for serious car enthusiasts who want to store and show off their vehicles in a safe place and also enjoy some comfort away from the racetrack.

Members of Birmingham City Council see this as a complement to the race track.

“I think this is going to work really well and it’s exciting for us too because the City of Birmingham has invested quite a bit in developing this property and getting it ready for development and to my knowledge this will be the first development on the site,” said City Councilman Darrell O’Quinn.

One concern that was raised at the beginning of the discussion was that these condominiums are not rented but purchased. Furthermore, it is forbidden to rent them for short periods of time.

“Because car enthusiasts invest large sums of money to store their cars in this facility, we don’t want a lot of turnover among tenants and have people stand behind the security service,” said developer Ray Roll.

The car condo developments will be built in two phases: the first phase will include 51 residential units, the second phase will include 54 residential units.

We recently reported that Leeds is investing in developing residential and retail space right next to the motorway, so expect to see quite a bit of change near the route in the next few years.
