According to a BMW insider with a pretty good track record, the G65 BMW WX5 will be a very different beast than the X5 we see on the road today. The SUV will apparently much higher market segment, with many of the features we see today, the are usually reserved for the top models of the 7 and X7 series. Automatic doors are mentioned in name, but the fully electric SUV has much more to offer.

The source reveals that the new G65 iX5 BEV will have almost all from the latest technology we have heard about in recent months. Panoramic view, augmented reality integration and a passenger screen will all appear depending on the model. We have also mentioned the possibility of a passenger screen in the past and can confirm that this will be available on other models, not just the new X5, starting with the facelifted 5 Series. Furthermore, insiders claim that the new BMW X5 and iX5 will even introduce a new feature called the “Ceremonial Light Carpet.” While we won’t go into too much detail, it’s likely a more decorative take on the existing light tricks new BMWs perform when locking and unlocking the door.

Although we only got brief glimpses of heavily camouflaged prototypes of the G65 X5 today, we could already see that it is very similar to both New Class models and the existing X5 aesthetics. Gasoline-powered and electric vehicles based on the New Class are said to be are offered at the same time when production begins in late 2026 or early 2027. The V8 engine should still be available on top trim levels, and the insider describes a hybrid model that uses the M60e xDrive nomenclature and shares a powertrain with current hybrid offerings like the 750e xDrive.

The electric models in the lineup will vary, ranging from the alleged 600hp iX5 M70 models to entry-level models. Even at the lower end, the next-generation X5 will also use futuristic Gen6 batteries that may ensure 30 percent faster charging and longer range coupled with 20 percent more energy density. Combined with this obvious shift toward higher-end luxury features, the G65 X5 will likely continue to be a major profit driver for BMW.
