Connor McDavid and Lauren Kyle are officially married. The Edmonton Oilers captain and the interior designer tied the knot on July 27 on Old Woman Island in Muskoka during a multi-day wedding event that featured five high-fashion bridal looks.
“Our favorite place in the world is our cottage in Muskoka,” said Kyle Vogue Australia“Being on the water is so peaceful and calming.”
The wedding festivities included a formal rehearsal dinner on a converted steamboat. The couple asked their guests to dress in “old money style clothing” for the occasion, which included “vintage jewelry” and wedding photos of the couple’s grandparents.
At another event, the couple asked guests to dress in pastel colors for an outdoor party and cocktails on the tennis court.
“The European summer dream really came to life with the colorful outfits, the gardens, the spritz bar, the tennis court and the jazz band that led us into the most beautiful night,” said Kyle.
On her wedding day, the 28-year-old wore a strapless, custom-made dress by Vivienne Westwood Couture as she exchanged vows with the 27-year-old athlete from Richmond Hill, Ontario, on a floating dock.
“I knew I wanted something that was timeless and elegant, but also a little ‘modern’ and had a touch of sex appeal,” Kyle said.
The newlywed said that despite her involvement in every detail of the wedding, there was one “unexpected element”: McDavid’s vows.
“He’s usually pretty reserved and tight-lipped about his feelings, but his vows were so emotional and heartfelt – it was really special to share that in front of all our friends and family,” she said.
After the ceremony, the couple retreated for a moment before dancing the night away with family and friends.
“Connor and I did a victory lap around the island on an old wooden boat. It was so nice to have a moment together. We were grateful for where we were and for all the people who came to support us,” Kyle said. “We were able to really enjoy the moment.”
McDavid proposed to Kyle in June 2023 at their cottage in Muskoka. According to Kyle, McDavid told her they were going to a charity event before surprising her with “a trail of flowers that led us to a beautiful arrangement on the patio.” The star athlete played guitar and sang Kyle her favorite song, “Only Love” by Ben Howard, before proposing.
Kyle shared photos of the proposal on Instagram and called the day he proposed to her “the best day” of her life.
“I can’t put into words how lucky I am to spend the rest of our lives together. Almost eight years of growth, happiness and so much love and I can’t believe we have so much more to look forward to,” she wrote. “I knew you were my person from the first day we met and I can’t wait for the beautiful life we will create together.”
