With today’s launch of the new Pixel 9 series, Google hopes to win over impatient phone buyers
Some analysts say Google’s decision to hold its event in August instead of October is a sign that the company is finally taking hardware and smartphones seriously. Mandeep Singh, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, is one of the analysts who thinks so. And he credits Osterloh for the change.
“For the first time, I feel like Alphabet is really taking its hardware and smartphone side seriously. That’s a reflection of Rick’s leadership and what he’s done.” – Mandeep Singh, Analyst, Bloomberg Intelligence
The Pixel 9 Pro will be unveiled later today.
But to the company’s credit, Google has worked to improve the product line every year. Next year could mark a fresh start for the series, as the Pixel 10 will be powered by a Tensor G5 chip designed from scratch by Google and manufactured by TSMC on its 3nm process node.
As for this year, Google’s decision to overtake Apple on the calendar could be a sign that the company believes its AI capabilities are far superior to Apple’s intelligence. Bloomberg Intelligence’s Singh says Google is “ahead of Apple, and in doing so, it also sends a signal that we are likely way ahead of what Apple will show for 2021.” iPhone16 at least.” And that could lead to consumers giving Google exactly what it hopes for. That would be a strong pre-order phase from Pixel buyers who have enough confidence in the Pixels 9 to reserve their new phones without waiting to see what Apple will offer.
The Made by Google event will take place at 10:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. EDT. For the latest news and analysis from the event, stay tuned to PhoneArena.
