Bride kicks sister out of wedding because she refused to stick to color scheme

A bride kicked her sister out of the wedding because she refused to stick to the predetermined color scheme.

The 25-year-old woman has been battling with her sister for years, ever since they began living under her parents’ roof. “When I was nine, my parents adopted my sister ‘Jen,’ who was seven at the time,” the bride explained in a Reddit post. “Everything Jen wanted, she got.”

Seeking outside opinions, the bride took to Reddit’s popular confession forum “Am I The A**hole” and described the situation that developed between her and her sister before the wedding. However, the Reddit user thought it best to describe her existing relationship with her sister first.

“When they asked me if I would let Jen pick out the decorations and cake for my upcoming birthday, I agreed. I was so lucky to have a sister and I understood why my parents treated her special,” she noted, giving some context.

The Reddit user never fought back when her parents insisted that Jen decide what they would do on vacation or every birthday. “If she didn’t get what she wanted, she would throw a tantrum,” she noted.

Still, the Reddit user felt “loved” by her parents, even if their wishes took a back seat to Jen’s. For years, she tried to avoid her family. She stayed home and got a job at age 12. The Reddit user made sure she passed her driver’s test. She attended college across the country. She was determined to build a life outside of her sister’s shadow.

“Now that I’m making good money, I’m doing things I missed as a kid. I go on fancy vacations and throw lavish parties as I please,” the Reddit writer admitted. “My wedding was no exception. My fiancé ‘Kip’ and I wanted everything to be perfect.”

One of their wedding plans included a color scheme. “My favorite color is yellow and his is blue, so my guests would wear yellow, his would wear blue and mutual friends would wear green,” she explained. The bride and groom also wanted to wear green-toned clothing. Invitees were asked to dress in neutral colors if they didn’t have a wardrobe that matched their chosen color.

Everyone seemed to accept the color scheme, except Jen. According to the Redditor, Jen was angry when she heard she had to wear yellow because the color made her “look pale.” Jen not only complained to her sister, she refused to comply with her wishes.

“I shrugged and said it was OK – I would just kick her out if she wasn’t wearing yellow,” the original poster admitted. Unfortunately, Jen didn’t listen.

“On my wedding day, Jen came in a purple dress. I told her to leave immediately,” the bride said. “Jen refused to leave until I threatened to call security.”

After Jen left, the wedding went on. The Reddit user’s parents didn’t let their anger out until after the ceremony, yelling at the bride for kicking Jen out, calling her “cruel” and saying her reasoning for kicking her sister out was “trivial.”

The Reddit user told her parents: “This was MY wedding that I hosted without their support, so I can kick out whoever I want. Kip came to my aid and even told my parents they should be ashamed of the way they treated me.”

Since the big fight, the Reddit author has spoken to several family members who have given her differing opinions. Some believe she is completely in the wrong, while others think her actions are justified.

The confused Reddit user asked her readers for their opinion – an overwhelming majority were in favor.

One person wrote: “You can’t say a color scheme is stupid so I make up my own rules and force the bride and groom to let me in.”

“I have been to weddings where the bride and groom requested a color scheme. To this day, I have never known anyone who had such a problem with it that they showed up in a different color out of spite,” confessed another wedding guest.

Someone else added: “She could have even worn green and said, ‘I’m mixing the colors because someone is being added to the family, just like -I- was added to the family.'”

“NTA, for standing up for yourself,” argued one reader.
