Manhunt underway for suspect in July shooting near Many

SABINE PARISH, La. (KALB) – The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred near Many in July.

SPSO said they were looking for Julius Winfield IV off LA Highway 175 and Fire Tower Road south of Pleasant Hill. SPSO officers spotted Winfield in a vehicle when he got out and ran into the woods off Fire Tower Road.

Multiple agencies and resources are searching for Winfield, including Desoto Parish sheriff’s deputies, police dogs, and drones and helicopters.

SPSO has asked anyone in the area of ​​Fire Tower, Ray Canton, Miles, Progress Church and Moffett Lane to secure their vehicles.

According to SPSO, the shooting occurred on July 13 at an event on Newton Road west of Many. Nearly 1,000 people were present at the event when Winfield allegedly fired into the crowd for unknown reasons. SPSO said three people were struck by gunfire.

Winfield faces several charges, including attempted first-degree murder, possession of a weapon by a person convicted of domestic violence, and terrorizing.

If you see anyone matching Winfield’s description, call 911. He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone caught helping Winfield escape the area will be arrested for a serious crime.
