New Brethren Volunteer Service unit begins work at project sites – News





The Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) Summer 2024 Unit, Unit 335, has completed orientation and has been assigned to project locations throughout the United States and Northern Ireland. The unit’s orientation was held July 28-August 5 at Camp Colorado in Sedalia, Colorado.

The volunteers, their communities or hometowns and project locations are listed below.

The next BVS unit will hold orientation at Camp Brethren Heights in Rodney, Michigan, September 17-25. Apply for the fall unit or learn more about volunteering with BVS at www.brethren.org/bvs.

The volunteers of BVS Unit 335 include:

Calvin Brown of the Manchester Church of the Brethren in North Manchester, Indiana, serves in the Corrymeela congregation in Northern Ireland.

Lauren Hazel from Brownsburg, Indiana, goes to the Greenhill YMCA in Northern Ireland.

Katelyn Hoffman from Pfullendorf, Germany, works at the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Arkansas.

Jan and Tom Hurst The Church of the Brethren of McPherson (Can.) is located in the Corrymeela parish in Northern Ireland.

Rachel Johnson of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren in Quarryville, Pennsylvania, works with FaithX in the Brethren Volunteer Service office at the Church of the Brethren headquarters in Elgin, Illinois.

Isabelle Kruse from Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, works with the Greenhill YMCA in Northern Ireland.

Svea Lembcke from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, went to Camp Stevens in California.

Melika Rassoli of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is currently at L’Arche Syracuse in New York.

Kate Ruebke of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Weyers Cave, Virginia, volunteers at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Arkansas.

Henry Schenk from Bavaria, Germany, works for Abode Services in California.

Carla Sornig from North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, also works at Abode Services in California.
