What’s that noise? Demolition work at the warehouse in Port GardnerDemolition activities related to the construction of the Port Gardner Storage Facility (PGSF) on the site of the former Kimberly Clark wastewater treatment plant are ongoing and may continue to cause noticeable construction noise.

The former Kimberly Clark industrial wastewater treatment plant was purchased by the City of Everett in 2019.

The PGSF site is located off West Marine View Drive at 22nd Street, just south of Naval Station Everett. Currently, the constant noise heard on the bluff comes from vacuum trucks vacuuming the existing tanks on the site. The majority of that work will be completed this week.

Additional work will be carried out using vacuum trucks throughout September, but will only take place sporadically and is not expected to cause constant noise.

Once completed, the PGSF will temporarily store combined sewage (wastewater and stormwater) during severe storms when more combined sewage is generated than the sewer system can handle. The PGSF will then transfer the stored combined sewage to the wastewater treatment plant where it will be treated and disposed of based on capacity.

A stormwater treatment system designed to remove pollutants from stormwater runoff before it reaches the bay is also part of the project. The PGSF will be connected to the city’s existing sewer system by constructing several new pipelines to carry runoff to and from the facility. This project is necessary to comply with an order passed by the Department of Ecology to reduce the amount of combined sewer overflows into Port Gardner Bay by 2027.
