This weekend at Disney’s D23 Expo, Dwayne Johnson came to announce a new monster truck film project he is developing, titled Monster Jam.

The film is inspired by monster truck drivers and the story revolves around a series of motorsport competitions involving monster trucks that have been touring the United States since 1992.

These Monster Jam events feature monster trucks competing in three forms of competition, including racing, two-wheeled skills and freestyle. The Monster Jam website describes the film as being “set in the Monster Jam universe,” so it will most likely follow that exact format.

Some of the event’s other competitions test driving skills and the ability to put on a big spectacle, like the car squashing competition. Monster Jam stopped this competition in 2019, though, which is silly because it was great! But maybe they’ll bring it back for the movie.

Johnson said at D23: “We have an opportunity here to create something that is immersive, cool and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families around the world from the perspective of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric and crazy drivers. Ladies and gentlemen, Monster Jam is going to be one hell of a ride.”

Juliette Feld Grossman, CEO of Feld Entertainment, the parent company of Monster Jam, said on her website: “Together, The Rock and Monster Jam are truly as big as it gets!”

“We are thrilled to partner with Dwayne Johnson and Walt Disney Studios to bring moviegoers into the world of Monster Jam and deliver a fast-paced live-action adventure that brings the larger-than-life Monster Jam trucks and characters from the stadium to the big screen.”

It’s interesting to see Disney and Monster Jam teaming up, and I’m sure it will be an entertaining flick with Johnson’s involvement.
