NYC migrants allegedly raped woman at knifepoint in Coney Island

Two migrants were arrested for a knifepoint rape in Coney Island – one of whom entered the U.S. illegally across the southern border in 2022 and was arrested for rape in Brooklyn four months later, law enforcement sources said Monday.

David Davon-Bonilla, 24, a migrant from Nicaragua, allegedly grabbed the 46-year-old woman and threw her to the ground, then raped her while holding a knife to her throat at around 9 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Surf Avenue and 16th Street, police and sources said.

His alleged accomplice, identified as 37-year-old Mexican migrant Leovando Moreno, is accused of hitting the woman’s 34-year-old boyfriend with a pipe as he tried to stop the brutal attack, the sources said.

The horrific attack took place in front of a hotel where asylum seekers were housed.

Davon-Bonilla, who had previously lived in a La Quinta Hotel on Third Avenue that had been converted into a migrant shelter, was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree assault, first-degree sexual abuse, menacing and illegal possession of a firearm, according to the sources.

According to sources, Davon-Bonilla entered the United States illegally through Texas in December 2022 and pleaded guilty to the brutal sexual assault of a 34-year-old woman at La Quinta last year.

This victim was raped and sodomized in the hotel on April 23, 2023. It is unclear why Bonilla was allowed to remain in the United States after his release from prison in this case.

The victim of Sunday night’s attack is from out of state and appears to be homeless, and sources said she lives in an encampment under the boardwalk near where she was raped.

According to sources, Bonilla confronted her before the attack and demanded sex.

Moreno was charged with second-degree assault and illegal possession of a firearm in connection with the attack Sunday evening.

It is not immediately clear when Moreno entered the country.

According to sources, the victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where her condition was listed as stable.

Her boyfriend refused medical help on site, it was said.
