More details on the former food service director’s alleged actions

According to the New York Post, the 68-year-old has worked as food service director at Harvey School District 152 for the past decade. WGN-TV adds that between July 2020 and February 2022, Liddell stole “massive amounts” of food “intended as take-home meals for students who were being taught remotely during the pandemic.”

The meal consisted “mainly” of chicken wings, the outlet said.

Liddell reportedly ordered more than 11,000 “cases of chicken wings” from the school district’s food supplier. In addition, the woman allegedly “picked up the order in a district delivery truck.” However, the food allegedly never made it to the Harvey School District students.

“The massive fraud began at the height of COVID, at a time when students were not allowed to be physically present at school,” said an offer made during a bail hearing for Liddell last year. “Although the children were having remote learning, the school district continued to provide meals for students to pick up for their families.”

Further details on the verdict against Vera Liddell

WGN-TV reports that the school district’s executive director uncovered Liddell’s alleged scheme during a mid-year audit, when the executive director noticed that the school district was $300,000 over budget “even though the school year was only half over.”

According to the New York Post, Liddell was initially charged with “theft” and “operating a criminal organization” in early 2023. In addition, the media outlet points out that she has since pleaded guilty and was recently sentenced to nine years in prison.

A group now faces convictions and penalties for stealing from churches

Liddell isn’t the only one who stole from a surprising source. As The Shade Room previously reported, four people were convicted in July after the group allegedly stole over $760,000 from several churches across the country.

The group allegedly achieved this by stealing donation checks from church mailboxes.

In July, it was also reported that authorities were still looking for two other suspects.
