  • GMC has launched the third generation of the Terrain SUV, which is based on the Chevrolet Equinox.
  • The SUV looks more stylish, while the interior features a 15-inch infotainment system and more safety features.
  • The 2025 Terrain is available in the Elevation trim level, followed by the AT4 and Denali for the 2026 model year.

GMC has introduced the third generation of the Terrain. The brand’s entry-level SUV combines a more elegant exterior with modern safety and technology features in the interior.

The 2025 GMC Terrain will initially be available in the Elevation trim level. The off-road AT4 and the luxury flagship Denali will follow next year, in time for the 2026 model year.

According to GMC, the new Terrain’s design was inspired by trucks, making it more consistent with the rest of the lineup. The front end features aggressive headlights that flank a large grille and a more aggressive bumper. The rear has also been redesigned with sharper taillights and modern finishes. The AT4 and Denali trims feature animated LED graphics on the light units. In addition, the AT4 rides higher, rides on off-road tires and has a metal underbody plate.

The profile looks almost identical to the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, as the two SUVs share some of the sheet metal and also ride on the same undercarriage. The GMC differs in its higher C-pillar, which is connected to the roof, and its different wheels. The latter measure 17 inches on the Elevation trim and 19 or 20 inches on the Denali. The color palette has been further enhanced with the addition of a two-tone roof option, available in black or gray.

The interior has been redesigned and now features a new digital cockpit with an 11-inch instrument cluster and a portrait-orientated 15-inch touchscreen for infotainment. These are standard on all trim levels, as is the Google Assistant. Other available features include an HD surround vision camera with up to eight views, a digital rearview mirror, a wireless charger, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot and the AutoSense electric tailgate.

In terms of safety, all GMC Terrains come standard with more than 15 ADAS, including blind-spot steering assist, side cyclist alert and rear cross-traffic braking. Still, the SUV doesn’t have the more sophisticated Super Cruise system available in larger GM models.

Like the mechanically related Chevrolet Equinox, all GMC Terrain trims are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 175 hp (131 kW / 177 PS) and 275 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, although front-wheel drive is also planned for the future.

Both the AT4 and Denali come standard with all-wheel drive and hill descent control. As for the chassis, the AT4 has a raised suspension to match the off-road tires, while the Denali is equipped with comfort-focused “Smart Frequency Dampers.”

The 2025 GMC Terrain Elevation will launch in late 2024, with the AT4 and Denali following in 2025. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. In addition to the Terrain, GMC is about to unveil the updated Yukon, which has already appeared in official teasers and announced its expansion to Australia and China.
