An employee of a popular coffee chain in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly throwing a mobile phone with video recording into a dustbin in a ladies’ restroom, police said.
The incident took place at Third Wave Coffee Shop on BEL Road in Bengaluru on Saturday.
According to police, the accused hid his phone in the toilet trash can to record a video of a woman using the toilet in the cafe. The woman discovered the phone and informed the manager, after which the accused was arrested.
The police further stated that they had sent the accused’s mobile phone for forensic examination.
Another woman who claimed to have been at the scene reported the incident on her social media account “Gangs of Cinepur”.
She wrote: “A woman (victim) found a phone in the washroom hidden in a trash can with the recording function on for about two hours. It was pointed at the toilet seat. It was set to airplane mode so it didn’t make any noise and carefully hidden in a trash bag with a hole made in it so only the camera was visible.”
She further stated that police were called when it was discovered that the phone belonged to an employee of the store.
Third Wave Coffee posted about the incident on social media and said it responded quickly by immediately firing the employee and taking legal action.
“We regret the unfortunate incident that occurred at our BEL Road branch in Bengaluru and would like to stress that such actions are absolutely unacceptable at Third Wave Coffee. We have acted quickly to rectify the situation by immediately dismissing the individual and ensuring the safety of our customers,” the coffee shop said in a post on X on Saturday.
