Café employee arrested for hiding mobile phone with video recording turned on in woman’s room

News from Bengaluru: An employee of a popular coffee chain in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly throwing a mobile phone with video recording into a dustbin in a ladies’ restroom. A social media user who reported the incident on social media said the phone was on airplane mode so that it did not make any noise.

The accused, Manoj (23), a resident of Guttahalli in Bengaluru and a native of Shivamogga, reported India Today. He has been working at the Third Wave Coffee Shop on BEL Road for the past six months, where the incident took place.

The arrest came after a woman with an Instagram profile called “Gangs Of Cinepur” posted a story about a woman who found a cellphone containing about two hours of video recording in the trash can of a women’s restroom.

“I was at Third Wave Coffee branch in Bengaluru… A woman found a phone hidden in a dustbin in the washroom. It had about two hours of video recording and was pointed at the toilet seat,” the post said.

The Instagram user stated that the phone was “carefully hidden in the trash bag and had a hole punched” so that only the camera was visible.

“It quickly became apparent that the phone belonged to one of the men working there. The police were called, arrived soon and action is being taken,” it said.

“This was so horrible to watch. I will be vigilant in every restroom I use from now on, no matter how well known the cafe or restaurant chain is. I ask all of you to do the same. This is disgusting,” the story said.

Third Wave Coffee issued a statement on the incident, saying they responded quickly and fired the man.

“We regret the unfortunate incident that occurred at our BEL Road branch in Bengaluru and would like to stress that such actions are absolutely unacceptable at Third Wave Coffee. We reacted quickly by immediately dismissing the person and ensuring the safety of our customers,” the coffee shop said in a post on X on Saturday.
