Ram is discontinuing its cheapest pickup truck. This is how much it currently costs

Ram is finally discontinuing the Ram 1500 Classic after five years on the market, although it was already available in a new generation. There is no room for the midsize pickup anymore. The company will rely on the DT generation to meet demand for the model, which has aged without receiving updates that would have kept it competitive.

The last Ram 1500 Classic will roll off the assembly line in 2025, so the 2024 model year will be the last. The Ram 1500 Classic has been on the market since 2009 and lags behind its competitors, which have received updates over the years. In terms of features and price, it plays the role of the entry-level truck in Ram’s lineup.

The entry-level Tradesman trim also appeared in the Ram 1500 lineup. With a starting price of $40,275, Ram realizes that the Classic version’s presence no longer makes sense with its own Tradesman trim. The Classic trim starts at $38,705, which would steal market share from the 1500.

The DS and DT generations have coexisted for the past five years because the old generation maintained demand. That’s the only reason the 2024 model year stayed alive. So the DS’s retirement was only a matter of time. Production of the 1500 Classic for Canada has already been discontinued.

We say goodbye to the previous generation and remind customers that the Ram 1500 Classic with HEMI engine will be sold until 2025says Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson.

The Ram 1500 Classic is still available to order

The discontinuation of the Classic version has been on the table of the brand’s executives since 2020, shortly after the launch of the new generation. But it’s 2024, and customers can still order the Ram 1500 Classic at a starting price of $38,705, not including the $1,955 delivery charge. That’s how much they would pay for the Tradesman trim with Quad Cab, 6’4″ box and front-wheel drive.

Bright White and Flame Red paint finishes can be ordered for free, but Ram also offers some very bold colors like Detonator Yellow, Omaha Orange or Hills Green for up to $500.

The configurator includes five wheel designs, four tire options and two types of bed covers, while future owners can outfit their midsize pickup with either the durable vinyl or one of the two available fabric types. They can opt for either the standard 5-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen display.

The other variant is the Ram 1500 Classic Warlock, which starts at $43,635. The standard Tradesman version comes standard with the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine with 305 horsepower (309 metric hp), 267 pound-feet (362 Newton-meters) of torque, and a 1,930-pound payload.

The pickup can also be ordered with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that delivers 395 hp (400 Nm) and 556 Nm of torque and has a payload of 810 kilograms. The HEMI costs an extra $2,545.

Both engines will be discontinued for the final model year, leaving the mid-size pickup truck with only the new 3.0-liter inline-six Hurricane V6, which produces 420 hp and 669 Nm of torque and has a payload of 868 kg.

As Automotive News reports, Bridgewater Interiors, the company that builds the seats for the model, has to lay off 63 employees at its Detroit plant in light of the Ram 1500 Classic impasse.
