Texas DPS pursuit ends with arrest for human smuggling near Paseo Del Norte

An 18-year-old Juarez resident was arrested and charged with human smuggling after leading Texas Department of Public Safety officers on a chase through northwest El Paso on Monday.

Adolfo Garcia, an 18-year-old Juarez resident, was arrested Monday and charged with human smuggling and escape after leading Texas DPS officers on a chase from Doniphan Drive and Lane 16 to Paseo Del Norte and Northern Pass, the Texas DPS said in a statement.

According to the Texas DPS, just before noon on Monday, a trooper attempted to stop a gray Honda Pilot near Doniphan Drive and Spur 16 for a registration violation.

The Honda reportedly failed to stop and drove toward S Desert Blvd. and Artcraft.

The Honda continued to veer off the roadway for several miles, Texas DPS said, traveling at a “high rate of speed” and ignoring a stop sign until it finally stopped at the intersection of Paseo Del Norte and Northern Pass.

According to the Texas Department of Police, several passengers fled from the Honda Pilot, but police and special agents from the Criminal Investigation Department managed to arrest them along with the driver on foot.

Garcia was arrested and charged with human smuggling and escape, while the five illegal immigrants were handed over to border patrol.

The Texas Department of Transportation added that the investigation is ongoing.
