Is “Labyrinth” with Tom Hiddleston from 2024 real or a fake?

A viral Facebook post shared a poster for an alleged remake of the 1986 fantasy hit labyrinthwhich will apparently be released in November 2024.

The poster features Hiddleston as Jareth, the film’s main villain, seemingly taking over the role from the late David Bowie.

The full synopsis of the film, which also hints at a role for Hailee Steinfeld, can be found below:

Although this post is proven to be fake, as there are no rumors or confirmed press releases indicating that this particular film is being developed or shot, a new Hollywood-published labyrinth The film has been in the works for quite some time.

Will there be a remake or sequel to “Labyrinth”?

labyrinth has a long and complicated history regarding a remake or sequel, especially after the tragic death of original star David Bowie in 2016.

Variety reported in 2016 that TriStar and The Jim Henson Co. were working on a sequel, with the script written by Nicole Perlman and announced just weeks after Bowie’s death.

The outlet later reported in April 2017 that Jay Basu and Fede Álvarez had been hired as screenwriters for the film and that Álvarez would also serve as director. Álvarez then resigned from his post in 2020 (according to Bloody Disgusting) before Doctor Strange Director Scott Derrickson took on the job (according to Deadline).

Original film star Jennifer Connelly even told Collider in 2021 that she “had conversations” about the sequel, but wasn’t sure which direction it would take.

In a chat with ComicBook in 2023, Derrickson expressed some doubts about the sequel, as he wasn’t sure if it would be easy to make the project commercially viable.

However, as recently as February (according to ComicBook), Brian Henson, chairman of the Jim Henson Co., still believed that the sequel would happen, pointing out that it was still in development.

In May, Lisa Henson noted (via Paste) that she and the team at Henson Co. “I didn’t manage to get the script right” for a labyrinth Consequence.

The current plan is to continue with a new script and a new director, which means there will be no new film “anytime soon.” She didn’t even want to speculate about a date, as they were still in the early stages of starting over and didn’t want to give anyone too much hope.
