Legend Bank begins construction of new full-service bank branch in Bonham

Bonham, Texas (August 7, 2024) – Legend Bank, a community bank that has served North Texas residents for over 134 years, is pleased to announce it is beginning construction on its new full-service branch in downtown Bonham. It began serving customers in Bonham in 2007 when it purchased the downtown Bonham State Bank. The location was originally built 64 years ago in 1960.

“We have been discussing rebuilding the Bonham location for over five years. Unfortunately, the pandemic and its aftermath have put our plans on hold until now. We are excited to begin construction on our new branch and share this important milestone in our history with the Fannin County community,” said Jay Bearden, CEO/President of Legend Bank. “Fannin County has beautifully restored the courthouse and our bank design will complement its look and feel. We hope it will add even more vibrancy to an already vibrant downtown.”

The Legend Bank will use materials to highlight the history of downtown Bonham, including brick and masonry, special details and colors that will create an exceptional impression and complement the downtown area.

“When designing the new building, we worked closely with our architects to ensure our new location would preserve the heritage of downtown Bonham and be a beautiful tribute to the courthouse, downtown square and the entire community,” said Matt Brown, East Regional President of Legend Bank. “David Plyler and Plyler Construction will handle construction of the building. Our new building, like similar buildings around the square, will have parking facilities, giving us more parking so our customers don’t have to walk far.”

The groundbreaking event in Bonham was well attended. Customers, directors and members of the Bonham Chamber, city officials, Mayor HL Compton, and representatives from Plyler Construction, Eikon Consulting Group, and Legend Bank were in attendance. Plyler Construction provided bonus coffee from Motion Coffee to guests in attendance. Legend Bank had special treats for all who came to celebrate this exciting event.

Their new branch will be conveniently accessible and will offer a full-service location, with lobby services for personal, business, commercial and mortgage banking, as well as drive-thru banking, ATMs and electronic banking services. Bank tellers will continue to serve customers at their temporary location and at the Legend Bank Convenience Center during construction, encouraging customers to stop by for all their banking needs. Customers can also try out the new ATM with Live Teller, which has extended hours, including Saturdays.
