Borderlands movie criticized for not naming Claptrap rigger and artist as source

Borderlandbased on the video game of the same name, has run into trouble. The film was heavily criticized by film critics, and now it is accused of something else – the lack of credits.

Robbie Reid, a freelance senior rigger, says he is from the credits of Borderland. Not only that, he was also left out of the IMDb website, which lists eight riggers, and Reid is not one of them. He reported that he worked for 5 months on manipulating one of the franchise’s most notable characters, Claptrap. He said on X: “3 years ago I created the CG asset of Claptrap for the Borderland Film… I worked on it for 5 months straight. Neither I nor the artist who sculpted it (who I worked with the whole time) were credited for the film..'” Rigging is what gives a computer-generated model a skeleton so that animators can modify it to create the final image. Without the role of the riggers and Reid’s contributions, the character Claptrap would be unthinkable.

“We made an R-rated film”: Borderlands was much bloodier before the PG-13 edit

Borderlands’ stunt coordinator says the film was shot in the style of many of director Eli Roth’s other gore fests.

Robbie Reid says what he has to say

Reid continued to describe his experience on “X”: “Up to this point, I had been extremely fortunate to be credited on every film I had worked on. It just hurts that the film that finally broke that streak was the last film I worked on at a studio.…To all those who say I dodged a bullet: Artists should be recognized for their work, no matter how good the film is. That is not a high hurdle. I am proud of the work of our team and I thought the final product looked great.” Although he is very disappointed, he hopes that conditions will improve so that younger artists who want to break into the industry can get recognition for their work. “… It is more difficult for emerging artists and young artists to be left out of having their work recognized. This is discouraging and also makes it difficult to verify the work done..”

This is discouraging and also makes it difficult to review the work you have done.

The game is extremely popular in the community, even attracting A-list actresses like Cate Blanchett, who starred in the 2024 adaptation. “The crazy requests are usually the things I gravitate towards; the things I never imagined. I think there was a bit of Covid madness involved too – I spent a lot of time in the garden and was a bit too hands-on with the chainsaw… I bought a PS5 and we played together. I’m really immersed in this world.”
