Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott marries in a surprise ceremony

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott married his fiancée Hana Pugh on Sunday in a surprise ceremony at Walther Gardens.

The wedding was posted by Scott’s chief of staff Marvin James on social media platform X, previously reported by The Baltimore Sun. Afro News published photos of the wedding in a post on Facebook.

Spokesman Bryan Doherty said Scott and Pugh exchanged wedding vows in a small, private ceremony officiated by District Judge Lynn Stewart Mays.

“The Mayor’s Office is extremely happy for the newlywed couple, and we know the entire City of Baltimore will join us in congratulating them as they celebrate the beginning of this joyous union with their loved ones,” Doherty said.

Scott, 40, announced on social media in July 2023 that he was expecting his first child with Pugh. “Baltimore Baby Charm is on the way,” the mayor posted at the time.

On Christmas Day, Scott announced the couple’s engagement on Facebook. Charm was born the next day.

Scott did not bring a partner into the spotlight during his tenure as mayor, but he made several public appearances with Pugh last spring and summer, and the couple has posted regularly about their experiences together since then.

Pugh is the director of operations at Bmore Empowered, a nonprofit that provides programs for Black girls and women, as well as administrative and accounting support to nonprofits and women-owned businesses in Baltimore.

Pugh has a 7-year-old son from a previous marriage. The family lives in Scott’s Hamilton home, purchased last summer, with Madam Scarlet, a long-haired tri-colored cat, and Lord Grogu, a Yorkie mix.
