Canton Select Board approves $85,000 to purchase city truck

CANTON – The Select Board approved spending up to $85,000 to purchase a 2024 model year Ford F550 from Arundel Ford for the city’s road department during its meeting Wednesday.

Special Board Chairman Brian Keene and board members Carole Robbins, Michelle Larrivee and Christine Carrigan approved the expenditures. Shawn Goodrow, who was elected to the board along with Carrigan in June, was absent from Wednesday’s meeting.

Keene said about $50,000 of the money for the new truck will come from insurance premiums for the total loss of the city’s F550 truck and $30,000 will come from rollover funds from the road department’s 2024 budget and from the city’s reserves.

On a separate note, Robbins, who is also one of the city’s cemetery ladies, said Joe Ferranini of Atlas Preservation, a company that sells supplies for headstone restoration, will hold a demonstration on headstone cleaning and repair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12 at Pine Grove Cemetery on Route 108. The event is part of the company’s 48-state tour and is open to the public, Robbins said.

On another matter, Keene cited the city’s loss with the July 29 death of Randy Campbell. Campbell was a third-generation highway department employee, Keene said.
