Stock up | Jets that impressed during Commanders Week

Many players have been able to play to their strengths throughout training camp, but here are three players/topics that were trending during the last week, which included a joint practice and game against the Commanders.

The young running backs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis
The Jets’ young rookie backs’ impressive start to training camp continued in their first NFL appearance. Allen led the team with 54 rushing yards and averaged 9.0 yards per carry, while Davis shone as a running back, receiver and returner.

“I felt like I ran the ball hard and with determination,” Allen said. “That’s been my biggest focus since I’ve been here. No matter what decision I make, I always give 100 percent. I feel like I’ve accomplished that, but other than that, I’m just trying to improve in every way.”

Davis’ first two carries went for -1 yards, and he helped the offense on the next play of the second quarter with a 24-yard catch-and-run up the middle that set up the Green & White’s first touchdown one play later. He finished the game with 76 total yards (33 receiving, 8 rushing, and 35 returning).

“Everything went pretty well,” Davis said. “I wish I had stayed on my feet a little longer. It was my first time playing on grass in a while and my first time on the field. I think it just keeps getting better.”

C Joe Tippmann added of the pair: “It was great. To see them pull it off, they’re really tough running backs. To see them be so successful was a great feeling and I was cheering them on from the sidelines.”
