The iPhone SE finally gets a modern makeover

Apple’s budget phone offering will finally look like a modern smartphone starting next year, Bloomberg’s Apple insider Mark Gurman reports in his Power On newsletter. The last version of the iPhone SE launched in 2022 and looks exactly like the iPhone 8 from 2017, so I’d bet that for most people, this upgrade was long overdue.

Well, I don’t care what the current iPhone 11 Pro looks. I find the design quite charming, and there are probably some people out there who would agree with me. But in my opinion, it’s a pretty outdated phone. I mean, 4GB of RAM and a 4.7-inch LCD display that isn’t even Full HD? Fortunately, Gurman reports that the new iPhone 11 Pro will give the look of the much more modern iPhone14.

It’s due out next year and is rumored to have a higher resolution OLED display. More interestingly, to me at least, Gurman would also bet that the new SE will support Apple Intelligence.

This new and improved iPhone 11 Pro isn’t the only thing to look forward to from Apple next year. There’s the very interesting claim that an iPhone Air is also in the works. A slimmer, new iPhone with less impressive specs but a cooler design. That’s something to keep an eye out for.

However, if Apple Intelligence makes it to 2025, iPhone 11 Prodon’t expect it to be perfect from the start. Gurman recently claimed that Apple backed off on the decision to delay the iPhone 16 launch by a month. This would have made it possible to launch the iPhone 16 using Apple intelligence, but the company apparently didn’t think it was important enough.

And even if Apple’s AI features are perfect out of the box, insiders suggest the company plans to charge users for those features eventually. The iPhone’s AI has the potential to help keep it one of the best phones on the market today. But I’m sick of subscription-based services for something I’ve already paid for.
