Former Huskers win Olympic silver with US women’s volleyball team

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – The U.S. women’s national team secured the silver medal at the Olympic Games when they lost 0-3 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) to Italy on Sunday, August 11, in Paris.

Three players from the U.S. national team – Jordan Larson, Kelsey Robinson Cook and Justine Wong-Orantes – represented Nebraska throughout the competition.

In the final, Wong-Orantes scored 15 digs for Team USA and Larson scored five kills.

Larson won her fourth Olympic medal, the most ever by a female volleyball player. Kelsey Robinson Cook won her third Olympic medal, and Wong-Orantes now has a gold and a silver medal.

The U.S. women have won one Olympic gold medal (2020), four silver medals (1984, 2008, 2012, 2024) and two bronze medals (1992 and 2016).

Larson, a three-time All-American at Nebraska from 2005-08, was competing in her fourth consecutive Olympic Games. She is entering her second season as an assistant coach for the Huskers and will resume coaching after the Olympics.

Robinson Cook, an All-American at NU in 2013, was also a member of the 2016 bronze medal-winning team and the 2020 gold medal-winning team, while two-time All-American Wong-Orantes (2013-16) made her Olympic debut in Tokyo.
