A man in his early 20s is said to have shouted “Free Palestine” at a young Jewish man in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, before adding, “Do you want to die?” and stabbing him.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Shabbat “near Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, near Chabad headquarters,” wrote Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, who is associated with the movement’s administration.

The victim, who was hospitalized, is expected to recover. Behrman said local residents detained the suspected attacker until police arrested him. (JNS has reached out to the NYPD for comment.)

“This is an extremely serious incident. The victim could have been killed,” Behrman wrote. “This act of hateful violence underscores the dangerous impact of the anti-Semitic incitement and hatred being spread by some local politicians and leaders in New York and across the United States.”

“See this incident as a warning of the potential consequences if this hateful rhetoric continues. When hatred and incitement are preached against a group, it inevitably leads to violence,” he added.

Some media reported that the incident was being investigated as a hate crime and mentioned the name of the alleged attacker. This story is becoming more and more current.
