McDonald’s Chicken Big Mac makes its debut in the US

The USA took the Big Mac with them.

A British favorite is making its way to the US: After making a splash across the pond, the highly anticipated Chicken Big Mac will launch in the US for a limited time from October 10th – among other things at select NYC locations.

“With the introduction of the Chicken Big Mac, we are excited to pay homage to one of our most iconic menu items, the Big Mac, and introduce it to a whole new generation of fans,” said Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s USA in a press release.

The double-decker sandwich is essentially the same as the old-school version, but features “two tempura-breaded chicken patties” instead of the traditional beef pucks.

This also includes the signature Big Mac sauce, pickles, shredded lettuce and American cheese as well as three sesame seed buns.

McDonald’s bosses said in the press release that fans in the US are craving the chicken-tasting dish following its successful launch in other countries.

They’re probably hoping to repeat the success of the Chicken Big Mac in Ireland and the UK, which marked the fast food company’s “most popular launch ever” – according to CNN, the snack sold out in the UK just ten days after its debut.

This isn’t the first time the sandwich has made a splash in the US. In 2022, McDonald’s conducted a test run of the Chicken Big Mac at some of its Miami locations to see what customers thought of the treat.

The launch comes as McDonald’s increasingly relies on chicken – which is cheaper as beef – in an effort to reverse declining sales caused by customers spending less money on dining out.

This white meat offensive seems to be paying off.

The chain’s CEO, Chris Kempczinski, said chicken sales at the restaurant are on par with beef sales.
