Following this trend, the Colorado Avalanche announced today (October 3) that they have released former Philadelphia Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare from his professional tryout player (PTO) contract.

The 39-year-old Bellemare was fighting for a spot in the Avalanche’s bottom six and it seemed possible he would earn a deal based on his solid defensive play and leadership skills. However, the Avalanche have decided to go in a different direction with the veteran forward.
