“May his name be blessed forever.”

LeVar Burton shared his thoughts on the late John Amos during an appearance on ABC The view today I praise his roots Co-star – they played the enslaved human Kunta Kinte at various points in the character’s life – for his groundbreaking TV portrayal in On. Good times.

“James Evans, the character John played Good times“He was the first black man to appear on television as a homeowner,” Burton said. “The whole family, the father, makes it work for the family. When I performed, black men were generally portrayed as absentee fathers, shiftless, prison fodder and criminals. And John Amos changed that. May his name be blessed forever.”

Amos died on August 21st at the age of 84. His death was announced by his son Kelly Christopher Amos on October 1st. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, Amos died of heart failure.

In addition to Good times And roots, Amos’ numerous credits include: The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Coming to America, Die Hard 2, The Beastmaster (1982) and Time for me.

Amos’ final role is a guest appearance in NBC’s pilot Suits: LAwhich went into series production in July. In the pilot, which will air later this season, Amos plays himself as a client at Ted’s (Stephen Amell) law firm, with whom Ted also has a long-standing friendship.
