What is 2004’s “Mean Girls” about?

Mean Girls is about Cady Heron, the new girl who recently moved from Africa with her scientist parents. Now in the middle of Illinois, Cady must learn to adjust to public school and the new life that comes with it, including boys, cliques, and bad girls.

Cady falls into a girl group called “The Plastics”, consisting of the popular Regina George (Rachel McAdams) and her two henchmen Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert) and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried). While trying to stay true to herself and her other friends, Cady loses herself in the Plastics’ way of life, wearing pink on Wednesdays and never wearing sweatpants on Fridays.

But of course this is not without difficulties. Cady soon falls in love with Aaron, Regina’s ex-boyfriend, but has to stay away from him because “Exes are taboo for friends. These are the rules of feminism, so to speak.”

Of course, when Regina finds out that Cady is interested in Aaron, she intervenes, causing Cady to hatch a plan to take Regina down. Written by comedian and actress Tina Fey, Mean Girls is the perfect film to watch if you’re looking for a little Y2K nostalgia. You could even say it’s “grool” (a mix of “great” and “cool”, huh).

About the 2024 “Mean Girls” movie

Of course, you should watch the original 2004 film if you’ve never seen it Mean Girls. But in January 2024, the film was adapted into a musical film starring Reneé Rapp, Angourie Rice and Christopher Briney.

Although the new film follows the same theme as the original, it is not a direct remake. The 2024 version is based on the Broadway musical, Mean Girlsand has been updated to appear more modern. This version also includes social media, something that didn’t exist the first time around.
