John AmosThe cause of death has been confirmed.

The roots star, who died on August 21 at age 84, succumbed to heart failure, according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ. The document also states that no autopsy was performed on his body and he was cremated on August 30, nine days after his death.

But while the Good times Alum died in August, his son, Kelly Christopher “KC” Amosconfirmed his death.

“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold … and he was loved all over the world,” KC said deadline in a statement dated Oct. 1. “Many fans consider him their TV dad. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding work as an actor on television and film.”

The statement continued: “My father has loved working as an actor throughout his life…” most recently in Fits LA plays himself and our documentary about his life as an actor, America’s father. He was my father, my best friend and my hero.”

“We are devastated and have many questions about how this happened 45 days ago since, like so many of you, we found out about it through the media,” she wrote on Instagram on October 1 alongside a video of herself and her Father. “This should be a time to honor and celebrate his life, but we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainty that his death brings.”

Shannon’s post comes more than a year after she accused KC of elder abuse. She claimed her brother gradually took control of their father’s affairs, neglected his medical needs and isolated him from his loved ones. In 2023, she said The Hollywood Reporter“It touched not only me, but also his grandchildren, his nieces, people he worked with and friends he has had for decades.”

Despite the family drama, John told THR At the time: “Whatever we go through is our business, not the public’s business.”
