Stefon Diggs on fighting the bills: Block out the noise

Sunday’s game between the Bills and Texans will help shape the AFC’s future, but the past will also take center stage.

The offseason trade that sent wide receiver Stefon Diggs from Buffalo to Houston and the reasons why the wideout’s relationship with his former team soured was a major storyline this week, and that will be reflected in his performance on Sunday a closely observed part of the further course of the field. However, on Wednesday, Diggs said he was only looking at the game on his own terms.

“Block the noise out” Diggs said, via Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. “A lot of other people will have an opinion or a lot to say about X, Y, Z, and I don’t mind that. I’m not mad about it. I’m just trying to make it 1-0. Obviously they are a good team. They have a lot of guys who can fly around on defense. But they are a really good team. That’s why I’m looking forward to it.”

In his own media session, Texas quarterback CJ Stroud said he thought Diggs had a “bad reputation” on the way out of Buffalo and that he was a great teammate in Houston. Diggs said he’s found that it’s easy to earn such a reputation and that in a new environment “things usually change,” so he takes it all with a “caution” as he focuses on his game .

Given the quality of the teams, there is enough motivation to win on Sunday without getting into personal motivations. That may make Diggs’ story with the Bills more interesting to those following the game, but the results in Houston will play a big role regardless of the reason.
