Limo bus driver describes road takeover chaos on I-90 in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Tim Beck was driving a limo bus filled with passengers when it came to a stop early Sunday morning due to a major “road takeover” on I-90.

“Crowds of people in Halloween costumes and masks, from figure eights and burnouts in the middle of the street to setting off fireworks,” Beck said. “As soon as the traffic stopped and piled up, they started mobbing around cars.”

I-90 westbound was one of seven locations where these roadway takeovers occurred.

He said guns were pointed at the bus.

“They then climbed onto the hood, windshield and side mirrors of the bus and attempted to rip open the doors and glass,” Beck said. “They shot out the side window of the bus, not sure with what.”

Beck said he called 911 just after 4 a.m. when this happened

The owner of the bus company told 19 News the passengers also attempted to call 911 about 20 times.

“I called 911 at 4:04 a.m. and they called me back at 4:09 a.m.,” Beck said. “That in itself is scary when you call 911 and get a voicemail recording.”

CPD said these street takeovers were organized through social media.

Police saw an Instagram post Saturday evening warning about these events organized by someone from Cincinnati.

Chief Dorothy Todd said this has happened in other major cities and could be part of a social media trend.

Beck said he saw people in the group recording this while terrorizing motorists.

“Video cameras, people laughing and having fun with video cameras, and professional video cameras recording all this chaos,” Beck said.

Beck is frustrated that police haven’t made any arrests.

“There is no violence,” Beck said. “They feel like they can get away with anything they want, so they keep doing it.”
