Schenectady County Economic Development and Planning Commissioner Ray Gillen informed county lawmakers of the investment during Monday’s Economic Development and Planning Committee meeting and urged lawmakers to move forward with the sale of a one-acre parcel of land in the county-owned industrial park that is needed to eliminate stormwater runoff for a proposed 66,000-square-foot manufacturing facility currently under review.

Gillen did not disclose the name of the company because a final lease has not yet been signed, but he noted that a “very exciting, dynamic and fast-growing technology company” has an option on the facility.

“The company is a technology company that operates in energy, defence and aerospace, so it’s a great fit for the Airport Business Park,” he told MPs. “These are high-paying manufacturing technology jobs and they are jobs – they’re at the top end of the pay scale.”

LSI Development Group has proposed plans to build a 24,000-square-foot building and a 65,000-square-foot facility on 3.6 acres of land at 20 and 22 Airport Road, respectively. The proposal dates back to 2022, when county lawmakers approved the sale of the property to the developer in a 6.3-acre deal valued at $614,000.

County commissioners also approved the sale of a separate 2.68-acre parcel of land at 27 Airport Road along Route 50. Mid-State Industries, a Schenectady-based construction company, is in the early stages of building a 16,000-square-foot corporate headquarters on that property.

Brett Steenburgh, a civil engineer representing LSI, told city planners last month that he could not name the tenant of the proposed building at 22 Airport Road, but said the company had nothing to do with toxic fumes.

“I can tell you that it is more of a technological and metallurgical plant and not one that produces foul odors or toxic waste,” he said.

As part of the recent land acquisition, the county would sell the company an additional 1 acre for $10,000 to accommodate stormwater runoff. The property is currently used for drainage and is not developable, Gillen said.

Supervisor Chris Koetzle said he was aware of the planned development but had no information about the proposed technology company.

“We are happy about it,” he said. “It is a great asset for the city.”

News of the technology company’s interest in Glenville is the latest development in a years-long effort to transform part of the Schenectady County airport into a thriving business park that has resulted in millions in new investment and hundreds of jobs.

In recent years, C2 Design Group has moved into the park, which is also home to Richmor Aviation, SuperPower, DSM and a Naval Operations Support Center. Schenectady County Airport is also home to Stratton Air National Guard Base.
