Shannon Amos reveals the shocking moment she learned of her father John Amos’ death

In a heartbreaking revelation, Shannon Amos spoke about the shocking way she discovered her father was a legendary actor John Amoswas deceased.

On October 1, it was announced that the famous actor, best known for his role in “Good Times,” died of natural causes on August 21 in Los Angeles after his son, Kelly Christopher “KC” Amoswas released.

Just hours later, Shannon Amos broke her silence and revealed she was “at a loss for words” after hearing the devastating news.

John Amos dies

“It is with deep sadness that I inform you that my father has transitioned,” KC said in a statement The Hollywood Reporter. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved around the world. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding work as an actor on television and film.”

In his statement, he added: “Many fans consider him their TV dad. My father loved working as an actor all his life. Most recently, he played himself in ‘Suits LA’ and in our documentary about his journey as an actor, America’s Dad. That was him.” My father, my best friend and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support during this time.

Shannon Amos learned about the death of her father, John Amos, through the media

In an Instagram post, Shannon reflected on the unexpected moment she found out about her father’s death through the media.

“I’m at a loss for words,” she told her fans and followers. “Our family received the heartbreaking news that my father, John Allen Amos Jr., transitioned on August 21.”

“We are devastated and have many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, as we learned about it through the media like so many of you,” she added. “This should be a time to honor and celebrate his life, but we are struggling to cope with the wave of emotions and uncertainty surrounding his death. Still, there is a certain peace in knowing that my father is finally free.”

Shannon then thanked her for the “overflowing love, calls and texts” she and her family have received. “Please continue to think of our family and pray. Thank you.”

Inside the difficult relationship between Shannon and John Amos

Shannon’s relationship with her father had its share of challenges. The family drama first came to public attention when Shannon started a GoFundMe campaign, claiming he was fighting for his life in intensive care. However, he later said this was false.

The Good Times star was subsequently embroiled in allegations of elder abuse, but remained conflicted about whether he was a victim.

At first he claimed he was not a victim. However, he later changed his stance and claimed that he had actually suffered elder abuse and that his daughter, who started the GoFundMe campaign, was the culprit.

“She would be the prime suspect – if you wanted her to be,” John said in a video filmed from his hospital bed at the time. “I don’t know if that’s the right term or not. But she is the one I would attribute my elder abuse to. This is definitely a case of elder abuse.

Shannon Amos files a complaint with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation

In June 2023, Shannon claimed in a lengthy Instagram post that John was subjected to “elder abuse and financial exploitation.”

She filed a complaint with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and started the GoFundMe page to raise funds for the actor’s “care costs.” However, the page was later removed at his request.

The investigation into John Amos’ allegations of neglect has since been closed due to insufficient evidence.

In one of his last interviews with People magazine In December 2023, John spoke lovingly about his daughter, saying: “This is my daughter, my first child. I love her.”

“It’s a little acrimonious at the moment, but no matter what you might read or hear in the newspaper or on that medium or that media platform,” he said at the time. “Suffice it to say we are still a family and we love each other and that is the bottom line.”
