A woman was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a two-vehicle crash near Crystal Lake that nearly struck a pedestrian and damaged a brick monument sign.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-car crash at the corner of Edgewood Road and Bay Road in the unincorporated community of Crystal Lake around 9:55 a.m. Saturday.

When the fire department arrived on scene, they reported two vehicles involved with moderate damage.

After the impact, both vehicles came to a stop next to the road at the northwest corner of the intersection.

The driver of a Chevrolet Impala, who was the only occupant of her car, was taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with minor injuries.

The Chevrolet Impala had collided with a brick monument sign for the Cobblestone Woods neighborhood and torn down part of it.

There were two women in the second vehicle, a Chevrolet Traverse. Neither of them was transported by paramedics.

A passerby reported that a man who was traveling in the area at the time of the accident was almost hit by the vehicles when they left the road.

ComEd responded to the scene to investigate a damaged power pole.

It is unclear which vehicle was at fault or what caused the accident.
