Donald Trump Jr. tells CNN that “the media has radicalized people” who want to murder his father

In a tense interview with CNN on Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. said the media is partly to blame for recent assassination attempts against his father, former President Trump, by spreading false narratives that radicalize his critics.

In the spin room following the CBS News vice presidential debate, Trump Jr. agreed with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that the event was “civil,” noting that Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, even agreed when they agreed. The CNN anchor then asked, “Should we see more of this on the debate stage with your dad up there?”

“You know what? I’d like to see that across the board,” Trump Jr. said. “We’ve all heard about Trump Derangement Syndrome, we’ve seen what they lied about… ‘I was an agent of Russia, but Hunter Biden’s laptop was completely Russian disinformation .’ It turned out the opposite was true.

Donald Trump Jr. said the media was partly responsible for two assassination attempts against his father, former President Trump, by spreading false narratives that radicalized his critics.

CNN’s Donald Trump Jr. and Kaitlan Collins watch the vice president debate from CBS News.

“The media did this, they created so much of this environment. The media has radicalized the people trying to kill my father. I’ve had to deal with this twice now in the last two months,” he continued. “I’ve had to talk to my five young children twice in the last two months about someone trying to shoot their grandfather.”

Trump Jr. then said “this didn’t just happen” and accused the media of creating a “false Russia scenario” to harm his father.

“They rode it for years, even when it was disproven, they still rode it. “You know, this environment wasn’t just created by Donald Trump,” Trump Jr. said.

Collins retorted: “Everyone wants your father to be safe. No one wants their life threatened, but you can’t blame the media for these threats. There is no evidence.”

The former president’s son disagreed.

“If someone allows someone to have a platform where you can call someone ‘literally Hitler’ every day for nine years, you’re doing it. Whether you want to believe it or not, that’s a fact,” Trump Jr. said.

When Trump barely survived the assassination attempt against him in July, a bullet hit the former president’s ear and the gunman killed 50-year-old Corey Comperatore – a husband, father and former fire chief with the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, also critically injured two other participants in the rally.

Just two months later, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested on September 15 after he allegedly pushed the muzzle of an AK-47 through the chain-link fence outside where Trump was golfing in Florida. No shots were fired at Trump after the Secret Service spotted the would-be shooter and opened fire; The suspect fled and was arrested shortly afterwards.
