OMAHA, Neb. – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team fell to No. 6 Creighton 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-12 on Tuesday night at DJ Sokol Arena.

The Golden Eagles (6-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) fought back in the third set and forced a fourth frame, but couldn’t overcome the Creighton team, which has three top-20 wins this season.

Ella Foti And Carsen Murray Each landed nine kills to lead MU Samantha Naber contributed 20 awards as a libero, the most of his career.

The Bluejays (12-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) were outrebounded by outside attackers Ava Martin and Norah Sis with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Creighton hit .278 overall in the win, while MU hit .116.

Marquette trailed 22-19 in the third set as Creighton moved closer to its 10th sweep of the year after a kill by Elise Goetzinger. The Golden Eagles stormed back with five straight points to get within one point at 24-22 Yadhira Anchante Service ace, MU’s fifth in the frame. Goetzinger was able to keep the set alive with a kill outside the timeout, but Natalie Rings Kill gave MU the win in the third set a point later.

Notable:

• MU setter Yadhira Anchante posted her team-high eighth double-double of the year with 32 assists and 12 digs.
• The two teams combined for 17 service aces, with MU being the outside hitter Jenna Reitsma contributed a match-high four.
• Finishing sixth in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, Creighton has its best ranking since the start of the 2017 campaign.
• Marquette has a 7-28 all-time record against the Bluejays, with all but five of those meetings coming after CU joined the BIG EAST for the 2013 season. MU is 2-15 against the Bluejays in Omaha.
• The two teams have split the two regular season games each of the last two seasons and each team has won both games on their home court.
• The Golden Eagles are ranked second in the BIG EAST Conference preseason coaches poll, behind Creighton, which along with MU has won a share of the last three league titles. Aside from St. John’s surprise run to the BIG EAST Tournament title in 2019, only MU and Creighton have won league titles since conference reform in 2013.
