    Attack ad highlights JD Vance is ‘one heartbeat’ away from presidency

    Hours before vice presidential candidates Sen. JD Vance and Gov. Tim Walz enter the debate, Democrats released a new digital ad positioning Vance as “a heartbeat” away from the presidency if Republicans capture the White House.

    The ad portrays Vance as a “threat to democracy” and an “extremist” because of his stance on abortion and his ties to the authors of Project 2025. It also notes that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s age and legal problems pose a risk to his ability to serve another four-year term.

    “Debate night will once again remind voters of what is at stake in this election and serve as a stark warning that a victory by Donald Trump could put Vance, America’s least popular extremist, just a heartbeat away from the presidency,” said Harris-Walz 2024 spokesman Sarafina Chitika said in a statement, referring to the fact that a vice president is first in line to take over should something happen to a sitting president.

    The Trump-Vance campaign did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

    In a recent ad from an anti-Trump group, the Lincoln Project, cowboy actor Sam Elliott highlighted the growing gender issue in this election by urging voters to “be a man and vote for a woman “.

    Even before President Joe Biden dropped out of the election, abortion access was a mobilizing issue among Democratic-leaning women. With Harris as its candidate, America has the chance to elect the first female president in US history for the second time in a decade.

    Trump’s campaign has focused on wooing young male voters through appearances with influencers such as Adin Ross, Logan Paul and Theo Von.

    The gender gap will also likely be a part of Tuesday’s vice presidential debate, as both vice presidential candidates display competing versions of the everyman. Vance has repeatedly come under fire for his comments about “childless cat ladies,” while Walz, a reproductive rights advocate, has highlighted the classic father approach.
